Whether you are expecting your first baby, or nursing your second, it's important to make sure you are wearing a bra that fits. Breasts can change sizes during pregnancy, after birth, and as your little one grows while breastfeeding. Poorly fitting bras are not only uncomfortable but can cause breastfeeding problems such as clogged ducts and even mastitis. Check that your bras are comfortable and fit well. If you find yourself needing a new bra, here are some tips on finding the perfect bra!
If you're not sure what size you are, get fitted. Many women wear the wrong bra size so it's important that you are looking for the right band and cup size.
Try it on. Bras that are the same size but that are from different manufacturers may fit differently on you.
Check the fit when you try on the bra. The bra shouldn't cut into you or make your breasts spill out. The band should be able to sit flat and across and not ride up. It also should not gap or be loose on your body.
Have at least 3 to 4 nursing bras. You'll need one to wear and a few on hand when they get dirty. Rotating through your bras also helps keep them in good shape.
Consider getting a sleep bra for the night to be comfortable, in case of leakage, and to still get support. If you do yoga or sports, consider a yoga or sports bra with a nursing function so you have support and can still easily feed your baby!
